Christopher Cooper

Chris is a PhD student at the Australian National University, currently researching hydrogen plasma smelting and hydrogen direct reduction for low emission iron making. The aim of the work is to combine experimental research and numerical modelling to evaluate the technical and economic feasibility of several iron making pathways. One of the key objectives it to evaluate their performance when using Australian iron ore, such as ore from the Pilbara region in Western Australia. Chris completed a Bachelor of Engineering Honours at the University of Sydney in 2020, for which he received the University Medal. He is passionate about engineering and finding technology breakthroughs to help mitigate climate change.
