Sofia holds a bachelor's degree in physics from Novosibirsk State University (Russia). She is passionate about sustainable living and balancing human activity with nature. Sofia is undertaking her PhD at the University of Newcastle under Dr Sam Chen. She is researching highly porous materials – particularly metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) – for carbon dioxide (CO₂) capture as her PhD project in chemistry at the University of Newcastle and exploring ways to store and utilise CO₂. The aim of the project is to create new adsorbents that are effective and feasible for use in industries to eliminate CO₂ emissions and achieve net-zero emissions. As a creative person, Sofia’s interests, including sustainable fashion and meditation, provide ways of balancing herself and the world around her.
