Dohyeon Kim

Dohyeon Kim is a PhD student at the Newcastle Institute for Energy and Resources (NIER), University of Newcastle, supervised by Prof Tom Honeyands. His BHP-supported research within HILT CRC Program 1 (Process Technologies) investigates the reduction and softening–melting behaviour of Australian iron ores under top-gas-recycling oxygen (TGR-OBF) and hydrogen-enriched blast furnace conditions, aiming to de-risk low-carbon transition pathways for Pilbara ores. He holds a Master's in Ferrous and Eco-Materials Technology from POSTECH and a Bachelor's (Summa Cum Laude) from Incheon National University. Before moving to Newcastle, he studied at POSTECH Environmental Metallurgical Laboratory on hydrogen-enriched blast furnace operation and fluidised-bed hydrogen reduction relevant to POSCO's HyREX process. He is broadly interested in the reduction kinetics and microstructural evolution of iron ores during low-carbon ironmaking.
