Oliver Beecroft

Oliver Beecroft is a PhD student at The University of Adelaide whose research aims to address key gaps in ex-situ mineral carbonation relating to carbon reduction potential, economic viability and the suitability of different feedstocks. Ex-situ mineral carbonation suggests promising outcomes for carbon dioxide sequestration in hard-to-decarbonise industries. It also has the potential to offer an affordable solution to waste management by utilising industrial by-products including cement kiln dust, red mud or iron ore tailings as a feedstock to precipitate valuable products such as high-purity carbonates. Oliver is considering several key areas, including system modelling of mineral carbonation in Australia; efficient serpentine thermal treatment for carbonation; effective characterisation and carbonation of cement kiln dust; activation of red mud for carbonation; and the use of Australian iron ore tailings for carbonation. He will employ a combination of modelling and experimental approaches to conduct this research.
