How can Australia unlock the investment needed to decarbonise its energy-intensive industries while maintaining their international competitiveness?

This webinar introduces a new HILT CRC project RP3.011, Unlocking investment and competitiveness in industrial decarbonisation through green finance, environmental markets and institutional capital. The project is exploring how green finance, environmental markets and institutional capital can help overcome the barriers to investment in industrial decarbonisation.

Focusing on hard-to-abate sectors such as iron and steel, alumina and aluminium, and cement, the discussion will examine how financing structures, risk allocation and emerging revenue opportunities can influence the commercial viability of low-emissions industrial technologies.

Hosted by project leader Dr Daniel Rossetto (Adelaide University), the webinar will explore the challenges investors and project sponsors face in financing industrial decarbonisation, the role of the broader project revenue stack in strengthening project economics and bankability, and the opportunities to mobilise private and institutional capital at scale.

Designed as an introduction to the project, this session will establish the key questions and themes for a series of deeper discussions planned for 2027. It will examine some of the earlier research that shaped RP3.011 and bring together perspectives from industry, finance and research to explore how Australia can develop more investable pathways to industrial decarbonisation while strengthening the competitiveness of its industrial base.

The webinar will also feature a presenter offering an industry perspective (TBC).

The webinar is ideal for project developers, contractors, OEMs, financiers, investors, think tanks and policymakers with an interest in heavy industry’s low-carbon transition.
