Safety at HILT CRC
At HILT CRC, safety is central to everything we do. Whether in our offices, at partner sites or in the field, our goal is zero harm – ensuring everyone involved in our work returns home safely each day.
We work across Australia and abroad with Research Project Participants (RPPs) to deliver cutting-edge projects in heavy industry decarbonisation. We expect all RPPs to meet the highest work health and safety standards and to comply with all relevant laws and regulations.
Reporting an incident
If you are involved in, witness or become aware of a work health and safety incident, injury or near miss to an RPP worker on an RPP worksite:
- Notify the HILT CRC WHS Officer (ian.hardwick@hiltcrc.com.au) within 24 hours using our Hazard and Incident Report Form.
- If the incident is notifiable, report it immediately to the relevant regulator and preserve the site until directed otherwise.
How we manage safety
We have set procedures to identify hazards, manage risks, and learn from incidents, including:
- Compliance and oversight: Monitors WHS laws, policies, and standards at the Executive and Board levels.
- Incident reporting: Ensures timely reporting of incidents to regulators and internal teams.
- Collaboration: Engages Workers and RPPs in risk identification and mitigation.
- Information sharing: Information about WHS compliance and risks is communicated during Safety Working Group (SWG) and leadership meetings, as well as via safety alerts and safety shares to researchers and other stakeholders.
HILT CRC Safety Working Group
Our SWG meets regularly to share safety learnings of relevance to HILT projects, and to prepare for the upscaling and adoption of our research by industry with associated safety implications on site. All HILT CRC research providers have been invited to participate in the SWG, and we also welcome industry participation.
